The Mating of Yin and Yang
Taoism
Ancient China has a distinctive, deceptively simple cosmology. Tai Chi, the grand ultimate, immaterial, formless and impalpable. It moved and produced Yang, moved to the utmost, it rested, and then produced Yin . The dual elements of Yin and Yang, opposite but complementary, mated and produced Tao. Tao encompasses heaven, earth and humankind, all things material and spiritual. When Yin and Yang are in harmony, whether in nature, the world, or the human body, crops thrive, nation are at peace, and individuals enjoy health and happiness.

FOOD
Aphrodite was the Greek Goddess of Love. She was the 'Venus' of the Romans. Regardless of whether aphrodisiac foods are a psychological or visual sensory stimulation, in today’s affluent society where food is readily available, we tend to eat and drink too much. Over-indulgence in any form is harmful to us, as are many of the processed foods that we conveniently consume. Taoists, as with most nutritionists today, believed that a healthy body forms the basis of a healthy lifestyle. Nutrition was taken very seriously in ancient China and is just as important for us today. Those who know the Tao are like good cooks who know how to blend the five flavors into a tasty dish and into heavenly pleasure. Eating in this way harmonizes the Yin and Yang.
